Veterans Aid

There are financial benefits offered through the Veteran's Financial Assistance Program funded by the government for Veterans or their surviving spouses that may be in need of non-medical home care. If qualified, financial assistance may be available to help pay for Assisting Angels services.

1.  Can any Veteran or surviving spouse receive this benefit?

Eligibility is determined based on service during a declared war period, income limitations, liquid assets, and a medically documented disability by a physician. Veterans must have served at least 90 days in a time of war. No dishonorable discharge will be accepted.

2.  What costs are associated with applying for this program?

There are no costs associated with applying for the Veteran's Financial Assistance Program for Veterans or their surviving spouses.

3.  What are the declared periods of War?

WWI        April 6, 1917 through November 11, 1918
WWII       December 7, 1941 through December 31, 1946
Korea       June 27, 1950 through January 31, 1955
Vietnam   August 5, 1964 through May 7, 1975
Gulf War   August 2, 1990 through a date yet to be set by law

4.  Do I have to go to a certain physician?

No, you can continue to use your own physician.

5.  Can I apply on my own?

Yes, however many veterans and their surviving spouses have experienced frustration and slow response from the Veterans Administration.  This happens when an application is incomplete, does not qualify as submitted, lacks critical documentation, or has confusing and contradictory information.  The application may then sit for extended periods while waiting for the required or corrected items, or, it is denied.

We can provide a wide array of services to Veterans or their surviving spouses that can help you remain in the comfort of familiar surroundings.   These include:

• Driving and/or accompanying you to doctor's or other appointments
• Shopping and performing other household errands
• Reminding you to take medications and calling to renew prescriptions as needed
• Respite for family caregivers
• Preparing and serving meals according to dietary needs and preferences
• Supervising ambulation and helping to prevent falls
• Taking care of personal laundry and bed linens
• Making and changing the bed
• Light housekeeping including cleaning the bathroom and kitchen after use
• Helping with correspondence
• Providing socialization, friendship and support
• Encouraging and accompanying on activities

Assisting Angels Home Care is the only home companion agency in the Treasure Valley that provides this service free of charge. Our staff at Assisting Angels is specially trained to determine eligibility for the Aid and Attendant services provided by the Veteran's Administration.
